RELATED: Wodonga Council gets down to business onrates
COMPLAINTS about council rates are a given most years.
Whether it’s the size of an increase or the projects that win a share of the pie, people always have an opinion.
Wodonga Council — like all councils — always gives people the chance to make comment on their draft budget before its rates notices are sent out.
But often people don’t know how to go about getting those views across.
And after all, the council speak of in-house reports and data can be difficult to decipher.
That is what makes Wodonga’s decision to start its rating reference group again such a good move.
As hard as any council might, it can be difficult to gauge a community’s view on a particular issue.
The group will give councillors a clearer picture on such expectations, whether these be the priorities of business or the farming sector.
Those who are chosen to join the group will become the council’s eyes and ears into the community.
That has to be a good thing for transparency, and for doing what’s best for the city.
Wodonga Council should be congratulated on taking such a step.
