Letters: Veterans neglected

29/06/2018 // by admin

The government and the RSL both treated our Vietnam veterans badly when they arrived home.

Sadly this has not changed significantly over the decades.

While Vietnam veterans have belatedly gained the recognition they deserve, many of them are now refusing to stand aside and let a new generation of veterans move the association forward.

The only suggestion from the RSL for housing homeless Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan veterans was to put them in aged care facilities. Totally inappropriate and insulting for young Diggers.

Yet again we find both the government and the RSL failing to take care of these brave men and women.

Both DVA and the RSL should be ashamed, they are both spending millions of dollars on commemorating the 100th anniversary of World War I while veterans who are alive today live in poverty.

It is a national disgrace.
