‘‘PAST results are irrelevant.’’
That was the response of Latrobe coach Dale Perry when asked whether his men had any concerns heading into this Sunday’s cut-throat NTFL final against Penguin.
Latrobe coach Dale Perry.
The Demons lost a nail-biter to the Two Blues on Saturday, going down by just two points at Pirtek Oval.
The result means Penguin has now beaten the reigning premiers on three out of four occasions this season and may have planted serious doubt into the minds of Latrobe players.
But any talk about the Two Blues holding a psychological edge over his men going into this weekend’s elimination final was soon put to bed by Perry.
‘‘Past results are irrelevant and I mean that sincerely,’’ the three-time NTFL premiership coach said.
‘‘On Saturday I think both sides had a chance to win and they finished with their noses in front.
‘‘What I think the result does show is that there isn’t much between the three sides [Ulverstone, Latrobe and Penguin] fighting to play off against Wynyard.’’
The Demons were missing key forwards Claye Sculthorpe (103 goals) and Adam Jeffrey (52), but Perry said neither would be automatic selections this week.
‘‘There’s got to be a lot of boxes ticked before anyone plays regardless of who they think they are or what they’ve done in the past, and that goes for those two as well,’’ he said.
