AERIAL VIEW: Beresfield Golf Course.Golfers are concerned about what a three-year lease of Beresfield Golf Course will mean for them.

The lease would be to a private company and golfers fear a rise in costs.

Newcastle City Council announced last month that it would hand over the lease to Golf North Pty Ltd, which operates courses at Tallwoods Village and Harrington Waters Golf Course on the mid-north coast.

But the decision has raised the ire of some who have started a Facebook page, Save Beresfield Golf Course Submissions Here, to encourage concerned people to express their discontent to council.

The page administrator wrote: “Beresfield Golf Course under the Newcastle City Council charges $10 for the general public for a casual hit and $5 for members.

“There are many clubs formed. As an example, Monday social club is pay as you go, vet club members pay $10 a year membership.

“Beresfield men’s club pay membership of $280 a year.

“Golf membership under Golf North Pty Ltd for everyone is $1500 [for a] yearly membership.”

Council is accepting public feedback on the plan until today.
