A newregional animal shelter is set to replace the recently upgraded Gillies Street pound.

A proposal to establish a new shelter in Ballarat and close the current premises will be discussed at Wednesday night’s Ballarat City Council meeting.

Across the state, investigators from Alexandra Crime Investigation Unit have confirmed human remains have been located following a fire at a steel factory in Seymour.

The remains were located around 3pm on Sunday and will require forensic testing before an identity can be determined.

An occupant who was residing at the factory is still unaccounted for.

Emergency services were called to the Worrough Street property about 2.15am on Saturday morning and found the premises fully engulfed in flames.


Fire crews attended a false alarm at the Fine Art Gallery at 5.30am on Monday.


Paramedics had nothing of interest to report from overnight.


All Ballarat train services appear to be running on time according to the @vline_ballarat Twitter feed.

Services on the Geelong line have returned to normal following a train crash in Altona on Friday evening.
